| Sunday Morning
GT2 5th place is now within grasp of Team LNT. The other dominating Ferrari 430 – Scuderia Ecosse’s #87 car has stopped on track. Team LNT’s British GT rivals of 2006 had been leading, but a water pump failure has resulted in the car’s retirement.
9am: It’s now a Porsche in the lead of the GT2 class! Not so long ago, it was Porsche that dominated the class at Le Mans. Team LNT halted their ten year reign of the GT2 title last year. This year, it was looking like a Ferrari 430 was going to take the crown, but this race can throw allsorts at you.
Behind the #76 Porsche is one of two Ferrari’s remaining – the number 99, from 93 Porsche, then Adrian Newey aboard number 78 AF Corse Ferrari ahead of Bell’s Panoz. Keeping the pressure on, Bell is lapping 3 seconds faster than Newey.
Rob Bell: “It was quite cool last night. I didn’t even bother with the cool suit, I was just nice and relaxed. Visibility was pretty good – it wasn’t foggy or raining or anything. The only thing I had problem with was physically. Your back starts to ache after two hours, your knees start to hurt a little bit so that was the only thing that bothered me really. Apart from that, the car seemed to be the same throughout and got out with no problem at all.
“The old girl’s hanging together and I think it’s just a case of still trying to keep up the pace and put the pressure on the people ahead and hopefully they might make a mistake. I think it’s going to rain at some point from now until the end of the race, so maybe if we’re just in a position to capitalise on anybody making any mistakes, that would be our best chance to get on the podium.”
11am: Tomlinson has been in for a double stint and Dean’s back in. The weather is good (so far) but rain is forecast for around midday, which should mix things up a bit for the final three hours!
The complete GT2 field is thus:
1st: #76 (272 laps); 4:12
2nd: #99 (266); 4:14
3rd #93 (264) 4:14
4th #78 (262) 4:20
5th #82 (260) 4:19
6th #83 (243) 4:19
